Scholae Septembres: 25–27 September 2026
Scholae Septembres – our September Latin workshops – will take place from 25 to 27 September 2026 at the Institute of Classical, Mediterranean and Oriental Studies of the University of Wrocław, ul. Komuny Paryskiej 21. (PLEASE NOTE: this is not the venue normally used for the summer workshops.)
This edition will offer three groups at different levels of proficiency:
Tirones — beginners
This group is intended for participants who have never studied Latin, as well as for those who would like to begin again from the fundamentals. The classes will be conducted exclusively in Latin by Dr Marcin Loch.
Provectiores — intermediate
This group is intended for participants who have completed at least 45–60 hours of Latin study and/or are familiar with the material covered in the first 15 chapters of Familia Romana. No previous experience of speaking Latin is required. The group will be taught by Dr Jakub Kuciak, and the theme of the classes will be Historici Graeci Latine illustrati. Although the classes will be conducted entirely in Latin, the teaching materials will be bilingual, in Greek and Latin. We therefore also encourage participants with a good command of Latin who would like to develop their Greek reading skills to join this group.
Veterani — advanced
This group is intended for participants who already understand spoken Latin with a reasonable degree of fluency and would like to practise speaking Latin and broaden their vocabulary. The class will be taught by mgr Jiří A . Čepelák (Georgius Laminarius). The theme of the classes will be announced shortly.
PLEASE NOTE: we wish to maintain a friendly, small-group atmosphere during the workshops, and the number of places in each group is therefore limited. We will not be opening a fourth group. Early registration is strongly recommended.

Participation fee
- The workshop fee is 100 EUR or 390 PLN for payments made by 28 August 2026 and 115 EUR or 450 PLN for payments made after that date. The fee includes 20 hours of tuition, teaching materials, including photocopies, and refreshments during the coffee breaks.
- Bank account details will be provided in the email confirming the availability of a place in the selected group.
Meals
- The participation fee does not include breakfast, lunch or dinner.
- During the lunch break, participants may visit one of the nearby restaurants, remain at the venue and eat a meal brought from home – a microwave will be available – or order food for delivery.
Accommodation
- Participants are free to arrange accommodation according to their own preferences.
- In previous years, participants have stayed, among other places, at Hostel Wratislavia, which is next door, the Notre Dame Sisters’ guest house on Ostrów Tumski, and the University of Environmental and Life Sciences halls of residence, which are farther from the city centre but accessible by tram.
- Wrocław is one of the most visited cities, so it is advisable to book accommodation in advance.
